Buying Guide - best TVs under $400

I would like to point out a few key factors for smart TVs before we discuss our best picks under $400.

Screen Size

You can get smart TVs from 24 to 65 inches screen sizes (there are also 100-inch models). Two factors that determine screen size are budget and room size. While under $400, you can get 32-inch to 65-inch TVs.

But to choose screen size, you should consider a few things. These are the number of people viewing at a time, viewing distance and your room size. Considering these factors will result in the perfect screen size for your room.

The ideal screen size for the living room is 43-55 inches. When you have a large living room, consider upgrading to a screen that is 65 inches or larger.

But if you want to buy large screen sizes, check our guide on the best 75-inch TVs under $1000.

Screen Resolution

When buying a smart TV, you should consider the resolution.

In televisions, resolution refers to the amount of detail (pixels) that an image has. As the picture’s pixels increase, it becomes clearer, sharper, and finer.

In the market, you will see smart TVs come in three screen resolutions: 720P (HD), 1080P (FHD), and 4K (UHD).

Here is a pro tip for screen resolution. If you are buying a large TV such as 43-65-inch, go with a 4K resolution. But if you are going with a 32-inch TV, 1080p is also fine.

High Dynamic Range

These days most TVs come with a 4K resolution and HDR functionality. To provide realistic images, HDR TVs display vibrant colors and greater contrast. But some TV models on the market still don’t have this great feature.

HDR10 is an excellent choice. But, it only offers basic color accuracy. The performance of Dolby Vision HDR and HDR10+ are superior to HDR10. But under $400, if you can get HDR10 support that is more than enough.

If you want some really excellent HDR TVs, check our guide on the best TVs for bedrooms.

Smart Features

When purchasing a TV in 2022, smart features should be your top priority.  The TVs should have all popular streaming apps available.

Also,  Apple AirPlay and Chromecast for screen mirroring are highly desired features. .

While different TV brands use different Smart OS. But Fire TV and Roku TV are the top smart platforms.

Do you need a decent Fire TV for watching shows and sports? Toshiba 43-inch Class C350 would suit you well. The Toshiba 43-inch Class C350 has a sleek, simple design that’s perfect for any modern living room.

The build quality is also very solid in this price range. The stand is made of metal which is very solid, and controls wobble well. But the stand height is very low which can be problematic if you want to place a soundbar in front of the TV.

This TV delivers A1 image quality, with a wide color gamut for sharp visual display. It also has good picture accuracy and contrast, to give vibrant colors.

The Toshiba 43-inch Class C350 is a great choice if you’re looking for a TV that can easily handle movies. It has high color accuracy, which means it can accurately reproduce the colors of the film you watch.

The C350 has a 4k pixel resolution and Dolby Vision HDR support to enhance picture quality. But we found the HDR picture quality to be very poor. In our test, we found that TV has low peak brightness both in SDR and HDR mode.

Under $400 price point, The Toshiba C350 is a fairly good choice for console gaming. The panel’s input lag is low around 10ms while response time is pretty fast 6ms. So even if you’re playing a fast-paced game with a lot of motion, you won’t see any lag or blurriness in the image.

Toshiba 43-inch Class V350 has a lot of connectivity options. It has 4 HDMI ports, which means you can connect up to 4 devices to this TV.

There’s also an Ethernet port, which lets you connect the TV to your home network. Thus, it enables you to stream all kinds of content like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

Pros

Cons

  • Low peak brightness in SDR and HDR.

Our Verdict

Last but not least, Toshiba Class C350 offers tons of advanced features. You have Fire TV out of the box, and tons of smart apps.  The 4k resolution, HDR support and great gaming capabilities.

But it has low peak brightness and low contrast. In our tests, the HDR performance was also poor. But under 400 dollars, it is the value for money.
