Eagle Verdict

The Samsung Q90T is an excellent TV for most uses. The TV can make bright and clear colors, and its HDR peak brightness makes highlights stand out. It has a VA screen with a high contrast ratio and full-array local dimming, which makes the picture even better. It has a fast response time and low input lag. It also supports FreeSync, which reduces screen tearing when gaming. But the screen looks dirty, which can be annoying when watching sports.

Design & Build Quality

Samsung Q90/Q90T QLED TV Review 2023

The Samsung Q90T looks sleek with a dark frame, a thin border, and a simple stand. It’s slim for a QLED but looks bloated next to an ultra-thin OLED.

Samsung has a unique look, with a glossy finish that is almost black and a textured surface on the back of the cabinet. Without the stand that comes with it, the TV is 57.1 x 32.7 x 1.6 inches and weighs 62.4 pounds.

The Samsung Q90T has very thin ( 0.35″ (0.9 cm) borders that shouldn’t get in the way. The back of the TV is made of plastic, and it has a fine, horizontal roughness that makes it look like it was brushed.

In our testing, The build quality of the samsung Q90T is outstanding. The TV feels very well-made, and even though it wobbles a bit, it’s mainly because the stand is in the middle.

Design Facts

  • Style (Front & Back): No Curved
  • Bezels: Thin bezels ( 0.35″ (0.9 cm)
  • Max Thickness: 1.54″ (3.9 cm)
  • Wall Mount: VESA 200×200
  • Build Quality: Outstanding Build Quality
  • Stand: Yes
  • Expert Review: Outstanding

Picture Quality

The Samsung Q90T QLED is a great choice for anyone looking for excellent picture quality. It has many features make it one of the best choices on the market. Let’s look at the Samsung Q90T picture quality in different scenes.

Picture Quality Factors

  1. Movies
  2. Sports & Shows
  3. HDR Picture

What Other Experts Say!

“Movies and TV shows look great on this TV because it has great color and an upscale. But the viewing angles may be problematic because the picture quality and color clarity worsen as you move away from the center. Also, the lack of support for Dolby Vision could be a problem for people who like this HDR format.”

Movies

If you want to buy a TV for a home theater, you should look for one with a high contrast ratio (4,004: 10), and it improves significantly with local dimming enabled, allowing it to produce deep blacks.

The VA screen gives it a high contrast ratio and full-array local dimming makes it even better. This TV has good black uniformity, which makes it an excellent choice for watching in a dark room. The TV can remove judder from all sources. However, lower frame rate content may stutter.

In my experience, this TV has 4K resolution, an infinite contrast ratio (4,004: 10), and impressive 4K upscaling. However, a little “dirty screen” effect can be slightly annoying when watching movies.

Display Type: QLED
Resolution: 4K
Contrast & local dimming: Infinite contrast ratio (4,004: 10), Yes local Dimming
Upscaling: 4k Upscaling

9/10

HDR Picture

In our HDR performance tests of this TV, the Samsung Q90T achieved exceptional peak brightness HDR (HLG, HDR10, HDR10+) and is far brighter than the previous generation of QLED TVs.

The TV can generate vibrant and vivid colors, and its HDR peak brightness makes highlights stand out. It has a VA screen with a high contrast ratio and full-array local dimming, which makes the picture even better.

The Samsung Quantum Processor 4K makes HD SDR and 4K HDR videos look great on this TV. When upscaled, watching Jeopardy on Netflix in HD looked great, and older movies looked like they were made ten decades later than they were. It’s a huge accomplishment.

Thanks to the high nit count, the HDR is as good as any I’ve seen, but there’s still no support for Dolby Vision. The HDR10+ equivalent, plain HDR10 (static metadata), and HLG are all supported.

On the flip side, Samsung doesn’t support Dolby Vision. However, it helps HDR10+, which is similar overall but not as widely supported.

HDR Type: HLG, HDR10, HDR10+
HDR Peak Brightness: 2000 nits of peak brightness
Native HDR Gradient: 100% Black to 50% Gray
Color Gamut: HDR color gamut ( 67.24%)
Color Volume: good  (70.2%)

8/10

Sports & Shows

The Samsung Q90T is an excellent choice for watching sports and TV shows. The TV has an excellent response time (3.5 ms) and an optional Black Frame Insertion feature, so fast-moving scenes are rendered with minimal distortion.

In my experience,It can upgrade lower-resolution cable TV programmes without visible artefacts. It can go quite bright to combat glare, has excellent reflection handling, and has decent viewing angles for watching a game with friends and family. Unfortunately, there’s some dirty screen effect, which is rather disappointing.

This brightness reaches measurable peaks (using a white HDR window covering 10% of the screen) of more than 2000 nits in the TV’s dynamic picture mode. That’s one of the most significant numbers we’ve ever seen from a 4K TV, and it shows.

Brightness: 2000 nits of peak brightness
Response Time: 3.5 ms
Reflections: Outstanding reflection handling (1.3%)
Viewing Angles: Decent viewing Angle
Gray uniformity: Average gray uniformity (0.360%)

8/10

Sound Quality

The TV has eight built-in speakers and uses Samsung’s new Object Tracking Sound feature, which helps give the sense of object-based surround sound right from the TV.

Speaking of object-based surround sound, the Samsung Q90T does support Atmos and DTS:X, which is excellent if you want to buy one of Samsung’s Dolby Atmos soundbars.

In my experience, the Samsung Q90T has a decent frequency response (89.80 Hz) and distortion performance. The bass has a lot of power, and the mix as a whole is well-balanced.

It gets deafening, so it’s suitable for big rooms and places with a lot of noise, but there are a lot of compressions when it’s turned up to the max.

The Samsung Q90T has eARC support, which lets it send high-quality object-based audio like Dolby Atmos over an HDMI connection using TrueHD. To use it, set eARC to “Auto” and the Digital Output Audio to “Passthrough.”

Sound Facts:

  • Power: 4.2 channels x 60 watts
  • Frequency response: 89.80 Hz
  • Sound modes (ALLM): Yes
  • Dolby Vision: No
  • Distortion: Decent distortion performance
  • Expert Review: Good

What Other Experts Say?

“The sound quality of the Samsung Q90T QLED TV is “good, but not great.” Atmos and DTS:X do not work on the Samsung Q90T. I see that the TV’s speakers are at the bottom, so if you want better sound, I suggest using a soundbar or speakers that aren’t built into the TV. Overall, the music is “good enough for most people.”

Gaming Performance

The Samsung Q90T has three HDMI 2.0 ports with total bandwidth and one HDMI 2.1 port. With a native refresh rate of 120 Hz, the Q90T can show 4K content at 120 FPS, an essential benchmark for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X users who want to see where gaming is going in the future.

Gamers will also note that the Q90T supports FreeSync, AMD’s version of Variable Refresh Rate (120 HZ), and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM).

The first ensures no screen artifacts or tears while playing, and the second confirms that the Q90T is always in the correct picture mode when a console is being used.

In our testing, this TV is an excellent choice for gamers. The Q90T has one of the best response times I’ve seen from a VA LCD screen, and its input lag of just (10 ms) in game mode is also excellent.

Its support for Freesync VRR will be a huge plus for gamers, especially when the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X come out.

Gaming Facts:

  • Input Lag: Low (10.5 ms)
  • HDMI Ports: 1xHDMI 2.1, 3xHDMI 2.0b
  • Variable Refresh Rate: 120 HZ
  • Response time: 3.5ms
  • Compatibility with Consoles: yes (Xbox One X|S, Xbox Series X|S, PS4 Pro)
  • Expert Review: Best

What Other Experts Say?

“The Samsung Q90T is amazing for playing video games. It has a fast response time resulting in clear images with minimal motion blur and a low input lag and FreeSync support.”

Smart Feature & Inputs

The Samsung Q90T runs the most recent version of Samsung’s Tizen operating system.

The Samsung Q90T’s connections include three HDMI 2.0 ports and one HDMI 2.1 port. The Q90T also has eARC, accessed through the port labeled “HDMI 3.”

The included remote for voice control works well, and you can choose between Samsung’s Bixby, Amazon Alexa, and Google Assistant.

Key Smart Features:

Unboxing & First Impression

When the Samsung Q90T finally arrived, I was excited to see it had been well packaged. The TV arrived in a sturdy box with plenty of padding and protection to keep it safe during transit.

The box was easy to open, and there were clear instructions on how to take the TV out of its packaging in a safe way. I opened the box and found the TV, a remote control, a power cable, and user guidelines.

Overall, the SAMSUNG Q90T packaging and materials were well thought out and easy to use.

In the box of the Samsung Q90T are the standard items:

  • Remote control
  • Power cable
  • 2 x AAA batteries
  • User guide

We were astounded by the Samsung Q90T television’s sophisticated design and excellent picture quality when we first saw it in person. Because the OLED screen can produce dark blacks and bright colors, it shows a clear image.
