Rocketfish TV Mount Reviews – Full Overview, FAQs, Pros, Cons & More

Table of Contents

We’ve heard that the folks at Rocketfish have been making quite impressive mounts so we had to test it for ourselves.

We tested their full-motion wall mount for months with different TVs and we’ve compiled our findings in this post.

We’ve also provided some alternatives to the Rocketfish mount that you can look at. Maybe they might suit your needs better than the Rocketfish mount.

Quick Summary of the Main Product

We hadn’t tried any products from Rocketfish in the past so we didn’t really know what to expect. However, we were pleasantly surprised because not only is this mount well-constructed, it’s extremely easy to use as well.

The mount can support TVs ranging from 40 inches to 70 inches and you bet we tested it with many TVs within this range. We’re pleased to tell you that there was no difference in ease of use when we used it with TVs of different sizes.

It’s a full-motion mount. Hence, you can use it to move your TV all around your room and watch it from different viewing angles. The articulating arm is smooth to move and not rigid at all. The smoothness did not decrease even after months of use.

Features and Benefits

Built-in Wire Management

The mount features a built-in wire management system that you can use to hide ugly wires from sight.

There’s nothing that defeats the purpose of a neat-looking wall-mounted setup like unsightly tangles of wires. Usually, you’d have to buy a cable management box or something similar to hide the wires.

However, with this mount, you get it straight with the mount.

Wide Range of Motion

Since it’s a full-motion mount, you can definitely expect it to have a very wide range of motion.

You can use it to swivel your TV from side to side, extend it out from the wall, tilt it and even rotate it.

It’s the perfect mount for a large room where you might have parties, events, and gatherings. Even when you’re alone, you can take advantage of its full-motion capabilities by sitting at different viewing angles.

Mounting Hardware

It can be frustrating when you buy a mount only to find that you need to buy additional tools and supplies to properly mount it.

This mount from Rocketfish fixes that issue by providing you with all of the mounting hardware that you will need to properly install with no fuss.

Factors to Consider Before you Decide to Buy the Rocketfish TV Mount

Price

Honestly, the only negative thing we have to say about this mount is the fact that it’s extremely expensive.

Considering the fact that you can get just as good full-motion mounts for almost half the price then this mount really does break the deal for us.

It’s a great mount but overly expensive.

TV Size and Weight

In our testing, the mount can support TV sizes that range from 40 inches all the way up to 75 inches. This is a high range and it can be a great option if you have a smaller TV now but intend to upgrade in the future.

For example, if you have a 40-inch TV right now but intend to upgrade to a 70-inch one in the future, this mount would be perfect.

That’s because when you upgrade, you will not have to buy another mount for the bigger TV.

In my opinion, It has a maximum weight capacity of 100 pounds which is more than enough to safely support all newer TVs as well as most older ones.

Mount Type

It’s a full-motion mount so you don’t have to worry about being stuck in one viewing position. You can easily use the smooth-moving arm to swivel, tilt, extend and rotate your television to suit your viewing needs.

Buyer’s Guide

rocketfish

If you’ve been browsing for wall mounts for your TV and feel confused, you’re not alone. Most consumers feel that way since it involves a bunch of terms you may not have heard of before.

Mount type? VESA pattern? Stud spacing?

These are all terms that a regular person may not be aware of and they’re the main reason people get confused when buying wall mounts.

That’s why in this post, we will explain what they all mean as well as some other factors which you need to take into account.

As long as you take all the important factors into consideration, you will be able to identify what your needs are.

Based on those needs, you can easily find a mount that will work best for you.

The factors you should take into account are:

Price

Of course, you must take into account the price of the wall mount that you buy. Many people that buy a wall mount tend to overspend because they have no idea what a decent mount costs.

We highly recommend that you don’t go over $100 when you buy a VESA-compatible mount.

VESA-compatible mounts should not cost more than $100. When you go above that $100 mark, any extra features you may get will be excessive and something that you don’t really need.

On the other hand, if you don’t have a VESA-compatible TV and need to get a specialized mount for it, you may have to spend extra money.

Specialized mounts that are specifically made for TVs that don’t support VESA standards are typically a lot more expensive.

We’ve talked about how you should not spend too much on a wall mount. However, another problem you must take into account is not spending too little.

What’s the problem with spending too little?

Well, it can be extremely risky. When you buy a cheap TV mount, there’s a high chance it may be constructed from cheap-quality materials.

You don’t want something poorly constructed holding up your expensive TV. Not only that but cheaply-built mounts can also be extremely annoying to use as well.

Hence, you must find the right balance between your mount not being too expensive or too cheap. Ensure that you buy from reputable manufacturers that have good, verified reviews online.

Mount Type

Next up, you need to take into account the type of mount you want to buy for your TV. TV mounts are typically differentiated into different categories based on the level of movement they can provide to your TV.

Mounts that provide a higher level of motion are typically more expensive than mounts that provide a limited range of motion or no motion at all.

Finding the right mount type involves assessing how much motion you need for your TV. Do you have a large room in which you can sit at many different locations to watch TV? Or do you have a smaller room with a chair or a couch where you sit to watch TV?

If you have a larger room with many different viewing angles, then you will be better off with a mount that provides a high range of motion. Examples of these mounts are full-motion mounts, articulating mounts, and swivel mounts.

If you have a smaller room with not a lot of space and just a single viewing angle, then you should go for a mount with limited or no range of motion. Examples of these mounts are tilting mounts and fixed mounts.

Do not go for a high-motion mount if you have a small room.

You will not be able to take advantage of its motion capabilities because you will not have space to move your TV around. It’ll essentially just be a waste of money.

TV Size and Weight

It goes without saying but of course, you need to ensure that the mount that you buy will be able to support your TV’s size and weight. For you to be sure of that, you need to first find out your TV’s size and weight. Both of these specifications are fairly easy to find out.

You can find both of them by searching for them online. Most companies that manufacture TVs provide specifications to their TV models on their websites. The specifications will include your TV’s size and weight.

If you can’t find it online, you can look at the instruction manual you got with the TV.

Once you’ve found your TV’s size and weight, you can start browsing for wall mounts that support it.

Compatibility

Many people feel that as long as a mount can support their TV’s size and weight, it will be compatible with their TV.

However, that’s not essentially the case. You also need to take into account your TV’s VESA pattern.

The VESA pattern of your TV refers to the distance between the four mounting holes on its back panel. These mounting holes are what is used to attach your TV to any wall mount for it.

For the wall mount and the TV to be compatible, it’s important that the wall mount supports your TV’s specific VESA pattern.

To find out your TV’s VESA pattern, you can look for it online. Most companies provide VESA specifications for their TV models on their websites.

If you can’t find your TV’s VESA pattern, you can manually check it by laying your TV screen down on a soft, flat surface. Next, use a tape measure to measure the distance between the four mounting holes in millimeters (mm).

Once you’ve found the VESA pattern, you can start looking for a mount that supports that specific pattern.

If your TV is not VESA-compliant, then you’ll have to either look for a specialized mount for your TV or buy a VESA adapter.

A VESA adapter allows non-VESA-compliant TVs to attach to VESA-compliant wall mounts.

Wall Type and Stud Spacing

Lastly, you need to take into account the type of wall you want to install the mount onto.

All wall mounts cannot be installed onto all types of walls.

A typical wall mount is usually designed to fit onto only a certain type of wall. Most mounts that are available online are designed to be mounted onto Drywall that has wooden studs. That’s because that type of wall is the most common in the US.

However, if you have a concrete or brick wall in your home, you will need to find a mount that is designed to fit that type of wall.

If your wall has studs, you also need to consider the stud spacing. Stud spacing refers to the distance between corresponding studs in your wall. Depending on what stud spacing you have, you will need to find a mount that supports that specific stud spacing.

You can find out your stud spacing by using a stud finder to locate the studs in your wall and then measuring the distance between them.

Moreover, the Rocketfish TV mount manual warns that you do not install any TV of big size alone as it can damage your TV screen and the wall because there are chances it will fall.

Therefore, make sure you ask for help when you are lifting such a large TV as it will keep the installation process safe and quick for you.

  • How can I stop my Rocketfish TV mount from tilting forward?

If the TV appears to be tilted forward, the mounting screws or the roll adjustment screws at the back of the Rocketfish TV mount are not tightened properly. You can tighten the screws and make sure they are firm because if overtightened they can put extra pressure on your TV.

Moreover, this will help you adjust the tilting and viewing angle as well. Make sure you never over-tighten them as the angle can be disturbed as well.

In the end, we must say that the mount is extremely well-built and it has all the features you would want in a full-motion mount. The only thing that irks us is the fact that it’s so expensive.
