You definitely need proper planning and the right tools to safely mount a 70-inch TV to the wall.
The process is daunting for most people but the truth of the matter is that it’s not that difficult as long as you plan ahead.
Quick summary
In this post, we will provide step-by-step instructions on how you can securely mount a 70-inch TV into Drywall with wooden studs.
We have also provided you with a list of tools and supplies you will need to easily do the job.
Let’s get started.
Tools and Supplies Needed

When it comes to our tutorial posts, we always list the tools and supplies you will need for the process first.
Similarly, we also recommend that you gather all of the tools and supplies needed first before you actually start the mounting process.
The reason for this is that it will save you a ton of time because you’ll have everything you need on hand.
Otherwise, you would have to halt the process every time you need a different tool. If you don’t have the tool in your home, you would have to go buy it. You can probably imagine that this would take much longer.
Hence, taking the time out to first gather everything you need can definitely be getting it done quickly.
The tools and supplies you will need to mount your 70-inch TV are:
- A wall-mount
- A stud finder
- Assorted screws and bolts (that you received from the wall mount)
- A screwdriver or a socket wrench
- A drill
- A pencil or marker
- Drywall anchors (if your wall does not have studs)
- A helper
- A level
- Drill bits
Once all the tools have been gathered, you can begin to install your TV onto the wall.
How to Mount a 70-Inch TV on the Wall? (Step-by-Step Guide)

To wall mount a 70-inch TV, planning is key. As you will see in this section, a ton of planning goes into the process before you actually start it.
This will ensure that you don’t make any wrong calculations that could cause complications at a later stage.
Please note that for this post, we are assuming that you have Drywall with 16-inch wooden studs. We are providing instructions for this specific type of wall because it’s the most common one found in most American households.
To mount your 70-inch TV to the wall, follow these steps:
Step 1: Before you start any actual work, you must first decide where you want to mount the TV.
The location for mounting is very important and if you choose the wrong one, it can definitely cause a ton of inconveniences.
We recommend that you choose a spot that is close to a power outlet and will allow you to comfortably watch TV at an appropriate distance.
For the height, the optimal height for a 70-inch TV for most people is 24.5 inches from the floor to the bottom of the TV.
Step 2: The next step is to identify the locations of the wooden studs in your wall.
Ideally, your TV mount should be installed onto a minimum of two studs.
Hence, you need to identify the locations of at least two studs in your wall. Since this post is for studs with 16-inch spacing, we assume that your wall must have studs spaced 16 inches apart.
Hence, when you find the location of one stud using your stud finder, the other one will be located 16 inches apart from it.
Identify the location of two studs using the stud finder and mark them using a pencil or marker.
Step 3: With your helper’s assistance, hold the TV mount up to the location of the wall.
Your helper must hold the TV mount up in such a way so that the mounting holes for it align perfectly with the locations of the two studs you marked in the last step.
This is because the mount will be installed directly into these studs.
Ensure that you use a level at this stage so that the mount isn’t held up crooked.
Once the mount is at its appropriate position, you should mark the locations of the mounting holes with a pencil or marker.
Step 4: Once the appropriate locations for where the screws will go have been identified, it’s time to drill.
Take your drill and pre-drill holes for the TV mount that you marked in the last step.
Try to be gentle with the drill and make the holes slowly. If you go too fast or apply unneeded pressure, it can damage the Drywall.

Step 5: Once the holes have been drilled, you can now go ahead and install the TV mount onto the wall.
Ask your helper to hold the mount up again so that the mounting sockets align with the holes you made in the wall in the last step.
Use a screwdriver to securely install the TV mount onto the wall. Use a level at this stage as well to once again make sure the TV mount isn’t being installed crooked.
Step 6: Now that the mount has been securely installed into the wall, you can now attach your 70-inch TV to it.
Ask your helper to hold the TV up to the mount so that the mounting holes align properly. Next, use a screwdriver or socket wrench to screw the bolts in so that the TV is securely attached to the mount.

Step 7: Once you attach the TV to the TV mount, you’re pretty much good to go.
However, before you start watching, we recommend that you test the stability of the TV to ensure everything has been properly installed.
There’s really nothing to it: All you have to do is hold your TV gently and shake it from side to side.
If the TV doesn’t budge a lot, that means it has been properly installed. However, if it wobbles a bit too much for comfort, then you may have to go back and check which screws are loose.
Wrapping Things Up…
People get extremely nervous about wall mounting but as you can see, it really doesn’t take much to mount a 70-inch TV to the wall.
All you need is the right tools and careful execution.
