The metal border and minimal flex with exception to the VESA mounts add to the build quality of the TV, making it secure and stable. Overall, the Hisense 65U8G QLED impresses with its impressive design and build quality.

Movies

The Hisense 65U8G QLED TV is an ideal choice for movie watching in a dark room due to its extraordinary contrast ratio, excellent local dimming and black uniformity. It displays high-resolution content with lifelike color depths and smooth motion, while interference is minimal. However, its exceptionally fast response time may cause some stuttering in slow panning shots.

In my personal testing of the picture quality, I tried playing movies at a variety of settings. Bright areas of the image held up nicely, with vibrant colors and exceptional detail. Dark areas, in turn, held up incredibly well, with very little blooming, so even details in the shadows were apparent. Even at higher brightness levels, the black levels maintained enough depth to deliver quite a remarkable lifelike picture.

Panel Type: QLED
Resolution: 4K Ultra HD
Contrast: High contrast ratio
Local Dimming: Full Array Local Dimming (FALD)
Upscaling: AI-powered upscaling technology (called Hi-View Engine)

HDR Picture

The Hisense 65U8G QLED delivers an excellent HDR performance with vibrant colors and high peak brightness that brings out details in HDR content.

In my HDR content test of  the TV,  I was blown away by the picture quality. The colors are incredibly vibrant and lifelike, and the brightness really makes highlights pop.

The TV has impressive local dimming and 4k upscaling capabilities, making lower resolution content (460& 720p) look better than it would on a lesser TV. It also has a fast response time, which helps to reduce motion blur and produce a smooth, clear image.

HDR Peak Brightness: 1500 nits

Sports & Shows

After personally testing the Hisense 65U8G QLED Picture Quality for Sports & TV Shows, I can confidently say that this is a great TV with great durability, reflection handling, and peak brightness.

The picture quality is impressive with a fast response time, clear and crisp images, and great shadow detail. It also upscales lower resolution content well and is almost indistinguishable from native 4K content.

Watching sports on this TV is a great experience with clear, vivid, and lifelike colors, and the built-in Dolby Audio produces clear, crisp audio that adds to the immersion.

Brightness: Peak brightness ~1000 nits
Response Time: Fast response (13.5 ms)
Reflections: Good handling (5.2%)
Viewing Angles: Limited angle
Gray Uniformity: Average uniformity

8.3/10

Sound Quality

The sound quality of the Hisense 65U8G QLED is decent, but it’s not the TV’s strongest point. The built-in speakers lack bass and can sound a bit tinny at times.  We tested the TV’s sound quality and found that while it’s not the best I’ve heard, it’s still acceptable for most viewing situations.

Dialogue is clear and easy to understand, and the soundstage is wide enough to create a sense of immersion. The Dolby Atmos and DTS Virtual:X features are a nice addition and do enhance the overall sound quality, but they can’t make up for the lack of bass. It is recommended to invest in a separate sound system or soundbar for those seeking a more immersive sound.

For those who are looking for a more immersive sound experience, I would recommend investing in a separate sound system or soundbar. This would greatly enhance the overall viewing experience and provide a more satisfying sound quality.

What Other Experts Say?

“This TV offers decent sound quality with clear dialogue and good soundstage. Its built-in 15W speakers and support for Dolby Atmos provide an immersive audio experience, but it may not be enough for audiophiles or those looking for a more robust sound system.”

The TV also supports VRR (variable refresh rate) and ALLM (auto low latency mode), which ensures that you get the best possible performance when gaming.

I tested multiple games like Fornite and found no issues with the display. In-game visuals were rendered nicely, with a smooth and consistent input lag. The 120Hz refresh rate and FreeSync Premium Pro really shined in action games, with action sequences and sequences of command being rendered seamlessly and without any noticeable delays. On the other hand, when playing shooter games, the QLED was quite capable of rendering crisp and clear visuals without any major image ghosting.
