If you’ve browsed online or in shops for different types of TV mounts for your 50-inch TV, you may be confused by the sheer number of options you have. 

There are tons of varieties, shapes, and sizes that TV mounts are available in and it makes complete sense to be overwhelmed by the process. 

Luckily, you can ask some questions to yourself and take some factors into account in order to figure out what your needs are. 

Then, once you’ve identified your needs, choosing the right TV mount becomes a piece of cake. 

These factors are: 

Price 

First off, you must think about your price range and how much you’re willing to spend on a TV mount. 

Even if you can afford to buy an expensive TV mount, we recommend that you don’t go above $100.

This is because you can find even the most versatile TV mounts with the highest number of features for below $100. Anything above that price range is just excessive. 

The only exception would be if your TV is non-VESA-compatible and you want to buy a TV mount that was custom-made or specifically designed for it. 

Other than that, you can even buy a high-quality full-motion mount for below $100. 

In addition to not spending too much, you also need to worry about not spending too little. This is because if you buy a TV mount for an extremely cheap price, there’s a high chance you may end up with a sub-par product. 

You don’t want a mediocre TV mount to hold up your expensive 50-inch Samsung TV. Not only will you run into issues during installation but there’s also a risk that it may break a few weeks or months down the line. 

If that happens, the mount could get pulled out from the wall, and then your Samsung TV will end up on the floor. If you’re lucky, maybe the screen won’t break.

Full-motion mounts are the most expensive type of mount you can buy since they provide the highest range of movement. You can use a full-motion mount to extend your TV from the wall, swivel it from side to side and even rotate it. 

As you can probably imagine, full-motion mounts are suitable for larger spaces and event venues. They can be great if you have a big room with multiple viewing angles. 

Ceiling mounts can add a unique aesthetic to your living room since they attach to the ceiling and suspend your TV in mid-air. Variable ceiling mounts allow your TV to be rotated a full 360-degrees.

If you have a smaller space, then you might be better off with a mount type that does not offer a ton of movement. This is because you won’t be able to take advantage of the movement options of higher-movement mount types in a cramped space. 

Tilting mounts can work great in smaller spaces since they only provide one type of motion: they allow your TV to be tilted forwards and backward. While this may seem arbitrary at first but this motion is actually quite useful. 

It helps eliminate glare from nearby windows and can also help reduce neck strain. 

If you don’t have glare to worry about, you can buy a fixed mount for your small room. Fixed mounts are by far the cheapest type of mount and that’s because they offer no movement at all. They are extremely easy to install and also very simple to use. 

TV Size and Weight 

Of course, you must think about the size and weight of your 50-inch Samsung TV.

The typical VESA pattern of most 50-inch Samsung TVs is 400 mm x 400 mm. 

While this is true for most 50-inch Samsung TVs, we do recommend that you make sure of this by measuring it yourself. 

To measure the VESA pattern of your TV, simply lay its screen down on a soft, flat surface. 

Next, use a tape measure to measure the distance between the four mounting holes at the back. Make sure that you measure these distances in millimeters (mm). The mounting holes will be arranged in either a square or a rectangular shape. 

Once you’ve found out the VESA pattern, you can browse and find the correct mount that supports that specific VESA pattern. 

Wall Type and Stud Spacing

Lastly, this is something that slips most consumers’ minds: You need to consider the type of wall you intend to install the wall mount onto. 

Is it Drywall with wooden studs? Is it concrete? If it has studs, how far apart are they? 

These are all questions you must ask yourself before you go out and buy a wall mount for yourself. You must understand that different wall mounts are designed to be mounted onto different types of walls. 

If you buy a wall mount that is designed to be mounted onto Drywall and you mount it onto concrete, it’s not going to perform well. In fact, it may even get pulled out after a few days, weeks, or months of use. 

Hence, always consider the type of wall you intend to install the mount onto and get a suitable mount accordingly. 

Secondly, if your wall has studs, you also need to think about their spacing. Wall studs can be spaced anywhere between 8 inches and 24 inches apart from each other. 

You need to find out what the spacing for your specific wall is and then get a mount accordingly. You can find out the locations of studs in your wall by using a stud finder.

Design

Tilt design and articulating design. Tilt mounts are heavy-duty and can be used if your entertainment hub has a lot of space.

Some mounts feature vertical brackets while some have a horizontal plate for mounting your TV.  Experts prefer using the vertical brackets because they have lesser contact with your TV.

Although these brackets have minimum contact, the weight distribution is far better compared to a horizontal plate.

First, you can use zip ties to attach the wires with your mount in several places. Second, you can use the wire brackets to route the wires through them. 

It depends on the manufacturer what sort of option they provide you with. Tilt mounts usually have wire brackets while articulating mounts have holes for zip ties. 

This is because tilt mounts aren’t moved from their fixed position. Whereas, wires on an articulating mount need room for movement. 

For wire brackets, you can only use them for 2 wires at the same time. However, with zip ties, you can attach as many wires as you like. 

Locking Features

Locks are an essential part of a TV mount. They keep the tilt/swivel/articulating position in a fixed state. Without them, you won’t be able to set your TV in the desired position.

There are two main types of locks screw locks and lever locks. Screw locks are hard to lock and unlock. Whereas, lever locks are highly convenient to lock and unlock. 

However, screw locks can easily stand the test of time but lever locks are highly susceptible to damage through wear and tear. 

We recommend buying tilt mounts that feature lever locks and full-motion mounts that are installed with screw locks. 

This is because you won’t need to use the lever lock on a tilt mount that much. On the other hand, for a full-motion mount, screw locks are a better option.
