That’s because not only do you have to take all the regular factors into account but you must also think about the properties and spacing of your RV.

It’s a good idea to identify what your needs are before you go out and buy a wall mount for your RV. That way, you won’t waste money on a mount that might not fit or work properly.

Price

When it comes to the price you should be willing to pay for an RV TV mount, it’s a careful balance that you must achieve. 

First of all, you don’t want to go with something too cheap because then you run the risk of it being low-quality. You don’t want a low-quality mount supporting an expensive TV. There’s a high chance that it might break and damage your television. 

Secondly, you don’t want to go too expensive with it either because really, you don’t need to. Most wall mounts that we’ve seen which are overly expensive usually are so because of unnecessary, excessive features. 

We recommend that you don’t go above $100 no matter what when it comes to a wall mount for your RV. 

When you choose a mount to buy for your RV, make sure that it’s from a reputable manufacturer. That way, you won’t run the risk of buying a mount that is made from low-quality materials.

Typically, the mount type will dictate how cheap or expensive a mount is. You need to think about what type of mount will work best for your RV and we’ll talk about that soon…

TV Size and Weight 

This next factor is pretty much the only factor that most inexperienced consumers will also think about on their own because it’s the most obvious one. 

Of course, you want to buy a wall mount that will be able to properly support the weight and size of your television. 

The size of your television is heavily advertised so you will already know what the size is. Make sure that you check the specifications of your TV to figure out its weight as well. 

When it comes to TV mounts, the range of TV sizes that they support is also heavily advertised. You can also check the maximum weight capacity of any TV mount by checking its specifications. 

All you need to do is first figure out the size and weight of your TV and then, ensure that the TV mount you get is able to support that size and weight. 

Mount Type 

Next up, you need to think about the mount type. 

Most mount types are differentiated into categories based on the level of movement they provide to your television. 

Usually, the more movement they are able to provide, the more expensive they are. 

Full-motion mounts provide the widest range of movement for your TV and thus, are the most expensive type in the market. They allow your TV to be extended from the wall and also, rotated, swiveled from side to side, and much more. 

Ceiling mounts suspend your TV in the air and are typically fixed to the ceiling. You can have both fixed and variable ceiling mounts. The former can only hold your TV in one position while the latter allows your TV to rotate a full 360-degrees. 

Swivel mounts, as the name suggests, allow your TV to be swiveled from side to side. They are fairly close in design and structure to full-motion mounts. 

Tilting mounts offer fairly limited movement. They only allow your TV to be tilted forwards and backward. While this may not seem like much, it actually is very useful to reduce both glares as well as neck strain. They work well when you have one, primary viewing angle. 

Fixed mounts, as the name suggests, are completely fixed and offer no movement for your television at all. They are, by far, the cheapest mount type you can buy on the market. Again, they work very well if you have just one, primary viewing angle. 

When it comes to RVs, we highly recommend that you stay away from wall mounts that offer a ton of movement options. This is because you’ll just be wasting money if you buy them because you won’t have the space to fully use them. 

Full-motion mounts require a fair amount of space to move your TV around and an RV is not going to have that kind of space. 

Instead, we feel that the best option for you would be either a tilting or a fixed mount. Tilting mounts are preferable since you can definitely run into glare issues on the screen from external light sources. That problem can be fixed by a tilting mount. 

Compatibility 

Next up is compatibility and you may be thinking, “Isn’t that already covered with TV size and weight?” Well, no. 

When we discuss the “compatibility” of TV mounts and TVs, we are talking about their VESA holes or VESA patterns. 

This refers to the distances between the four mounting holes on the back of a TV. The TV mount you get needs to have the same distances between its sockets for the TV mount to fit the TV properly. 

This is referred to as the TV mount and the TV being VESA-compatible. 

In order to find out the VESA pattern of your TV, all you need to do is lay it down on a soft, flat surface and measure the distances between the four holes on the back panel. 

They will be arranged in either a square or a rectangular shape. 

Make sure that you measure the spacing in millimeters (mm). 

Once you know what the VESA pattern of your TV is, you can start to look for a TV mount that supports that specific VESA pattern. 

Stud Mounting 

When it comes to RV mounting, you will always need to install the TV mount onto a stud. 

You can typically get away with installing the TV mount onto just one stud when it comes to RVs. 

This is because RVs typically have a sturdy two-inch stud that spans from the ceiling to the top of the window. You can easily utilize this stud as a natural load-bearing point for the wall mount and the TV. 

To find the stud inside your RV wall, you can utilize a stud finder. Stud finders are small tools that identify the locations of studs behind your walls. This can be a wall inside a home or a wall inside your RV. 

When you turn the stud finder on and move it over a stud inside the wall, the stud finder will give some indication that you’re moving it over a stud. This could be anything such as a small flash of light, a beeping noise, etc. 

The indication that you get from a stud finder and its nature will depend on the model and manufacturer. 

Once you’ve identified the location of a stud that you can use to mount your TV inside your RV, you should mark it with a marker. 

If you don’t have a stud finder and don’t want to buy one, you can also find the location of a stud manually. To do this, you have to knock on the walls of your RV. 

If you knock on the wall and are met with a hollow sound, then that means you are not knocking on a stud behind the wall. However, if you are met with a solid sound, then that means that you are knocking on a stud.

Another important thing to note about studs inside RVs is the fact that since you will typically install the mount onto one stud, you should get a single-stud mount. 

Single-stud mounts are quite abundant in the market and you can definitely find one for your RV. Single-stud mounts are also typically smaller than multiple-stud mounts which is appropriate for RVs. 

That’s because you will typically mount smaller TVs inside an RV because they typically don’t have room for larger ones. 

You should go for a multiple-stud mount only if you have a larger RV and have the appropriate level of space for it on your RV wall. As long as you have that, you can get away with a multiple-stud mount. 

Stud Type 

Another important factor when it comes to studs is their type. Studs can be made either from metal or wood. 

Please note that not all TV mounts are designed to fit onto all types of studs. If you have metal studs inside your RV, you cannot use a mount designed for wooden studs on it. The same goes for using a mount designed for metal studs onto wooden studs. It will not work. 

Hence, you must first identify what type of studs are present inside your RV. 

To find this out, all you need is a magnet. Take a magnet and run it against the walls of your RV, if the magnet sticks to the wall when it runs over a stud, then you have metal studs. 

However, if the magnet does not stick to any location on your wall as you move it around, then that means you have wooden studs. 

Once you have figured out the type of studs that your RV has, you can start to find a mount that accommodates those specific types of studs.
