Buyer’s Guide For Recessed TV Wall Mount

recessed tv mount

There are many factors to consider when buying a recessed TV Wall Mount. You need to ensure that the mount is sturdy, fits your TV, and has enough cable clearance from the wall. Consider whether you want to tilt or swivel the screen and how much weight it can hold.

Your budget will also be a factor in deciding which type of mount you should buy. This Buyer’s Guide will help you determine what kind of recessed TV Wall Mount is best for your needs!

Type Of Mounts

There are three main mounts for recessed TVs: fixed, tilt, and full-motion. Fixed mounts are the simplest type and don’t allow for any movement of the TV.

Tilt mounts will enable you to tilt the screen up and down, while full-motion mounts offer the most flexibility, allowing you to move the TV side-to-side and up and down.

If you want the most straightforward option and don’t need to move your TV around, a fixed mount is good. If you’re going to be able to adjust the angle of your screen, a tilt mount is a good option.

If you need maximum flexibility in terms of movement, full-motion mounts are the best option.

Weight Capacity

You should always check the weight capacity of your preferred type of mount to ensure that it can hold the weight of your TV without any issues. Most recessed TV wall mounts have a maximum recommended weight limit, so you don’t need to worry about overloading them.

Still, it is worth double-checking if you have a particularly heavy TV or if your chosen mount comes with a minimum weight limit.

Tilt vs. Swivel

One key difference between the different types of mounts is whether they tilt or swivel. A tilt mount allows you to adjust the angle of the screen up and down, but it can’t swivel left and right.

A full-motion mount will allow you to move the screen left and right and up and down, which can be helpful if you need to change the viewing angle of your TV very often.

Consider whether or not you need a tilt or swivel function before choosing your mount.

Height

You also need to consider how far the TV will sit from the wall when you choose your recessed TV wall mounts. You can get full-motion mounts compatible with up to 32” TVs, but if your chosen mount comes with a short profile, it might not accept larger TVs.

Check the specifications of your chosen mount carefully to ensure that it is compatible with the size of TV you want to hang on it.

Installation

Nowadays, everyone is super busy with their life and work, and no one wants to spend hours installing a TV mount. That’s why wall mounts with less installation time are preferred over complex ones.

Therefore, people are less likely to pay extra for a technician or handy team to come and install a wall mount as it can be very expensive and can cost somewhere between $150 to $500.

Depending on the installation service, the installation prices vary and that’s why TV mounts that can be easily installed are preferred by people so they can install them on their own.

Moreover, wall types can also vary the installation process and installation time. Make sure you have this aspect covered and checked as well.

Installation Time

In this fast world, all of us want to invest in things that provide quick service. This can also apply to the installation time of your TV mount. If a TV mount installation process takes more than half an hour then it is deemed as a rigorous process.

Moreover, we have tested every TV mount in this guide and calculated the average installation time and all of the recommended ones take about 10 to 20 minutes.

Therefore, if any of you are going to mount your TV yourself on the wall then check the average installation time of the TV mount as it will give you a rough estimate of the time required.

It also shows the process is lengthy or short with fewer steps.

Installation Options

If you plan to install your recessed TV wall mount yourself, make sure it comes with easy-installation options like brackets with installation guides and adjustable screws.

If possible, choose a model that will allow you to install the mount without drilling holes in your wall.

It should also be compatible with the VESA standard to use it with most TVs of that size.

Compatible VESA Patterns

One of the most important factors to consider when purchasing a recessed TV wall mount is whether or not it is VESA compatible.

The VESA standard is a set of guidelines that determines the size and spacing of the mounting holes on the back of your TV.

If your chosen mount isn’t VESA compatible, you won’t be able to use it with your TV.

Fortunately, most recessed TV wall mounts are VESA compatible, but it’s always worth checking before buying. If your TV doesn’t have mounting holes that match the VESA pattern of your chosen mount, you’ll need to get them drilled by a professional.

This can be expensive and time-consuming, so it’s worth checking that your TV and mount are compatible before you buy.

Size Compatibility

It is another aspect that needs to be looked at thoroughly before deciding on which TV mount to invest in. The recommended TV mounts in this guide all follow VESA standards which makes it universally accurate to the size and weight compatibility of the TV.

Moreover, to prevent extra research we recommend you always go for TV mounts that follow VESA size and weight compatibility standards

Therefore, our research might help you better with your decision-making. If in case you buy a TV mount that is not compatible with your TV, then it can cause damage to your TV, wall, and TV mount as well.

However, if you comply with the right compatibility and VESA standards then there is no longer an issue.

Wall Type Compatibility

Before you purchase a TV mount, it is necessary to check your wall type as well. Some TV mounts are only compatible with concrete and brick walls because of their heavy weight. If this step is avoided then you can damage all of your walls and TV.

Moreover, many wall mounts are only compatible with wooden and studded walls so make sure you do not put a TV mount that is fragile on a concrete wall. If you dos this then your TV will fall on the floor anytime.

Therefore, always choose a TV mount that is compatible with your wall. Wall types can also vary the installation process and installation time.

Make sure you have this aspect covered and checked as well for a smooth installation process.

Hardware

What is the point of purchasing a TV mount that has no mounting hardware? Wall mounts are already pricey and if the hardware does not come with the mount, it can be a hassle.

To avoid the extra work and effort, we advise that you purchase a TV mount that comes with its hardware including concrete anchors and a wide array of studs.

It is to be noted that mounting hardware does not include tools required to mount the TV, tools are either included in the installation service or you have to buy them yourself.

Therefore, you can also invest in hardware kits especially made for the TV installation process but we hope you look for every way to be within your budget as the total cost of everything can be quite high.

Price

The price of a recessed TV wall mount can vary significantly depending on the type and size of the mount you choose.

Fixed mounts are usually the cheapest, while full-motion mounts can be pretty expensive. It’s essential to consider the price, but don’t let it be the deciding factor.

A more affordable mount might not be as sturdy or reliable as a more expensive model, so make sure you weigh all the pros and cons before deciding.

Durability

Another vital factor to consider when purchasing a recessed TV wall mount is its durability. A cheap, low-quality mount might not be able to hold the weight of your TV, which could lead to it falling off the wall and causing severe damage.

Make sure you choose a mount made from high-quality materials and has a good reputation for durability.

Moreover, the durability of the TV mount is directly linked with the material of the TV mount so make sure you invest in the heavy-duty steel TV mounts for long-term use.

If possible, look for customer reviews to understand how well the mount performs in the real world.

Final Verdict

Having a recessed TV couldn’t be any easier. Pick the best mount for you and make sure you follow the instruction manual.

Always pick a mount that can hold the weight of your TV.

The overall best pick is Aeon Stands In-Wall TV Mount, but if you happen to pick any other from the list we’re sure it’ll live up to your expectations.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

We also have added this FAQs section to make sure your every query is resolved. This section gives you additional information about recessed TV mounts and addresses any confusion you might have.

Carefully read this section to have complete knowledge about recessed TV mounts and how they work.

  • What is a recessed TV wall mount?

A recessed TV wall mount is a bracket that allows you to hang your TV on the wall easily. They’re also called ‘in-wall’ or ‘low profile’ mounts.

It might sound complicated, but the idea behind them is pretty simple. Instead of sitting flat on the wall, they sit flush with it, so the TV hangs off the wall.

You also don’t need to drill any holes in your wall unless your recessed TV wall mount features installation options that allow you to do so.

  • What are some benefits of recessed TV wall mounts?

Recessed TV wall mounts allow you to purchase a much smaller TV stand – saving space in your living room – and they’re straightforward to assemble.

They’re also effortless to install as they don’t require any holes drilled in the wall, which means you can do it yourself without hiring a professional.

The fact that your TV is flush against the wall also gives you a lot more free space on your mantelpiece or entertainment unit, freeing up space for other items you might want to display.

  • What are some types of recessed TV wall mounts?

There are a few different types of recessed TV wall mounts – fixed, full-motion, and tilting – but the main difference is how they allow you to adjust your TV once it’s installed.

Fixed mounts are the cheapest option, but they only give you limited movement, so it’s not suitable for all TVs.

Full-motion mounts let you lift your TV up and down or tilt it left and right, making them more expensive.

Tilting mounts are usually the most costly, but they’re also the best option for rooms with tall ceilings or if you want to be able to hide your cables easily.

  • What is a full-motion recessed TV wall mount?

A full-motion recessed TV wall mount is a type of bracket that allows you to quickly move your TV from side to side and up and down.

They usually let you tilt the TV left and right, which means you can adjust it depending on where it’s installed or where you’re standing. This is an excellent option if your room has high ceilings – because you can easily see what’s happening on-screen – but it’s also helpful if you have a smaller TV and want to adjust the viewing angle so everyone can see it.

  • What is a tilting recessed TV wall mount?

A tilting recessed TV wall mount is a bracket that lets you tilt your TV left and right, which is an excellent option if you have high ceilings. They’re also instrumental if you have a smaller TV and need to be able to adjust it from side to side depending on your preferred viewing angle.

This type of mount is usually the most expensive one available, but it does allow for more adjustment than fixed mounts and full-motion ones.

This is the most effective way to get a good quality picture if you’ve got an obstructed view.

  • Where should I buy a recessed TV wall mount?

There are loads of options for buying a recessed TV wall mount, and most people go for Amazon because they offer such a wide variety at low prices.

The main downside is that you can’t try out the mount before buying it, but it doesn’t take too long to install, and you can always return your purchase if it doesn’t meet your expectations.

  • Should I get the mount professionally installed?

Unless you’re confident with your DIY skills, the best thing to do is hire a professional to install your recessed TV wall mount.

If you try it yourself and make a mistake – or if one of the pieces gets damaged during installation – you might have to buy a whole new mount, which means spending more money.

Hiring a professional will also give you peace of mind because they’ll make sure your TV is installed correctly, not to mention it looks much neater.

  • How much do recessed TV wall mounts cost?

You can get a decent recessed TV wall mount for under $50, while the most expensive typically retail for over $100.

The main difference between models is how much you can adjust the viewing angle and whether they’re fixed, full-motion or tilting.

  • How much space do you need for a recessed TV?

A recess TV requires at least 3 inches above and on the left and right of the TV to allow the proper ventilation. Proper ventilation means enough space for hot air to go out and cold air to come in.

Moreover, if you have in-built ventilation pipes in the walls then it can be perfect for your recessed TV as you link or install your TV mount according to the ventilation pipes.

If not, then you can opt for the option of leaving enough space around your TV.

  • Can you adjust your wall-mounted recessed TV?

Many of the TV mounts need to be adjusted after they are installed. So yes, you can adjust your already wall-mounted recessed TV anytime.

You can adjust its level and its tilt according to your liking. You can also manually adjust your TV in any direction as your recessed TV mount supports full-motion range and tilting angles.

  • Can one person lift a 65” or 55” TV on his own?

No, we do not recommend that you lift such a heavy and big TV yourself. One of the major reasons is that you can get back injuries or you can also damage the TV panels as it is quite heavy and can not be lifted unless you apply extra force.

Moreover, all the recessed TV mounts recommended in this guide come with manuals which advise you to never lift your TV alone as it bent the screen of your TV because of the pressure applied by the hands.

  • Can the recessed wall mount ruin wallpaper?

The wall and wallpaper will inevitably be damaged as they are pierced through by studs and bolts to support your TV.

However, this is inevitable otherwise, you could damage your TV if it’s not mounted properly.
